About Us

BIOGRAPHIES

RUTH PLEVA
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in private practice, a transplanted New Yorker residing in Florida, has pursued excellence in both writing and music. 

  • Together with Elly Rakowitz, participated in an early Lehman Engel BMI Musical Theatre Workshop program. 
  • Collaborated on book and lyrics with Elly, music with Herb Sweet and wrote additional music for You Wanna Hear Luck? Co-directed its original New York Equity Showcase and is Musical Director of and performs on its current music CD. 
  • Collaborated on the book with Elly and wrote the lyrics for the musical, You Be The Doctor!     
  • Collaborated with Elly on the seriocomedy, God Knows, and directed its original New York showcase and later Florida production. 
  • Collaborated with Elly on the three "shorts":  A Thing of Beauty - A Tale of Two Breasts - I Am A Breast - included in "Keeping A Breast" Florida production.
  • Wrote book and lyrics plus starred in and directed the New York production of the musical, Docs and Dolls. 
  • Collaborated with Elly on Tess and Millie, a full-length outgrowth of the one-act God Knows.
  • Working with Sari Max on the book, lyrics and music for the animated film, Togethermaude.
  • Pioneered in the childbirth education movement as a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE), was guest speaker at conferences and authored a Fathers’ Manual for expectant fathers.
  • Appeared on various radio and TV programs regarding the advantages of Lamaze childbirth preparation.
  • Created and developed the Brooklyn College Presents TV program on childbirth education.    

 ELLY RAKOWITZ
A former New Yorker now residing in Florida. always involved in some form of writing pursuits.

  • Together with co-playwright Ruth Pleva, participated in an early Lehman Engel BMI Musical Theatre Workshop program.
  • Collaborated on book and lyrics with Ruth for the musical satire, You Wanna Hear Luck? and on the book for the musical, You Be The Doctor!
  • Collaborated with Ruth on the seriocomedy, God Knows.
  • Collaborated with Ruth on Tess and Millie, the full-length outgrowth of the one-act God Knows.
  • Collaborated with Ruth on the three "shorts"A Thing of Beauty - A Tale of Two Breasts - I Am A Breast - included in "Keeping A Breast" Florida production.
  • Member of the Dramatists Guild.
  • Co-authored the non-fiction book, Living With Your New Baby: A Postpartum Guide for Mothers and Fathers, with Gloria S. Rubin.
  • Pioneered in the childbirth education movement and was a co-founder of ASPO/Lamaze (a/k/a Lamaze International), serving variously as New York Chapter President, international ASPO NEWS Editor and Consultant.
  • As a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE), taught hospital and private classes in New York and Florida, was guest speaker at conferences and a guest on various radio and TV programs.

 HERB SWEET   

  • Accomplished musician, music instructor and summer theatre owner. Resettled from New York’s Long Island to Florida.
  • Composed most of the music for the musical satire, You Wanna Hear Luck?
  • Wrote book, lyrics and music for several original musicals, including Orpheus Jones, presented at the Discovery Playhouse in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
  • Created and recorded children’s music on the Bertlen record label.

                       Won 2014 IMEA (International Music & Entertainment Association) Award for Outstanding Original Book of a Musical
                       and its Nomination for Outstanding Original Score of a Musical.

University of Rhode Island School of Drama:
1st Place in national contest. Brad Smoker, Chairman: “Your two scripts…were the best, unqualified, of all we received…first choice for production  this summer…YOU WANNA HEAR LUCK? because I love it, but casting would pose a problem…therefore chose  your Moliere  script…it is so tightly constructed that I would have guessed it was produced somewhere before…”

New York Equity Showcase  - Stagelights Two Theatre - Original version with three-piece band.
               
Boston Radio Station WERS-FM Dave Iseman aired parts of the New York Showcase performance. He introduced the show, its theme, each song and premise and read the Village Voice review of the Showcase performance.

Yale University School of Drama: Considered by Dean Robert Brustein to be “…by far one of the best we have received…Unfortunately there are insufficient funds and personnel for the piece.”

University of Rhode Island School of Drama: Won 2nd Place in national contest (LUCK won 1st Place). “We have…chosen your Moliere script…so tightly constructed that I would have guessed that it was produced somewhere before…I found it a very tight book, very comic and interesting music…planning to do it this summer…university withdrew funds…”
            
Backers Audition: Organized by Martin Sheen, in which he, Loretta Swit and others performed.
